You may stop work at any time. Nothing on this page requires you to give a reason.
Cancelling an order
An order you have placed but that we have not yet been paid for can be withdrawn by you, without asking anyone: open My orders in the client portal or the app and choose I no longer need this. It closes immediately and we stop asking you for documents.
Once a payment has been received against an order, the button is replaced by a note telling you so, because the position is no longer automatic — there may be work done or a fee already paid onward. Call or email us and we will set out what has happened and what can be returned. See our Refund Policy.
Cancelling a standing arrangement
Recurring work — monthly returns and the like — is stopped from My orders under Ongoing. Stopping one means we open no further periods for it. Anything already under way carries on and is completed and billed as normal.
Cancelling a consultation
Tell us at least [24] hours before the appointment and any consultation fee is refunded or moved to another time, as you prefer. Later than that, or a missed appointment, and the fee may be retained — an advocate's time set aside cannot be used for anything else at short notice.
When we cannot continue
Occasionally the firm has to stop acting: a conflict of interest emerges, the instructions turn out to require something a lawyer may not do, or we are not given what we need to act properly. We will tell you in writing, return your papers, refund anything not yet earned, and where a deadline is close we will say so plainly so you can instruct someone else in time.
What cancelling does not do
Cancelling stops the work. It does not withdraw a filing already made, stop a hearing already listed, or recover a statutory fee already paid. Where something has already been filed in your name, say so when you cancel and we will tell you what can still be done.
